Final Fantasy VII was one of the RPGs many gamers cut their teeth on. An absolute masterpiece of a game, with hours upon hours of gameplay available for the completionist in us all. The popularity of this title is so great that Square-Enix decided to polish it up for a remake, which has done fairly well to my understanding in terms of unit sales. It is a game that certainly holds a special place for me, albeit I never actually completed it, but that is both a tragic and long story for another time… Should it interest you, you can see the Epic Tale of Loss and that story here.

I first encountered this game while watching one of my favorite youtube streamers (JC). I ended up purchasing the game after watching him play through a few videos, and while I have yet to finish it, I do not regret it. The game play I have experienced thus far was certainly enjoyable. In truth it’s more of a turn based game than an actual RPG, but it certainly offers a lot of RPG like aspects. It can also be a rather difficult game at times. That said, it is certainly worth a look if RPG/Turn Based games are your thing.

I picked this game up along with a slew of other related titles in the IP in a Steam Seasonal sale awhile back. Ironically, it peaked my son’s attention, and that snowballed into peaking the attention of several other friends in our gaming group. They’ve all since picked it up, and 4 of us started a mini campaign, with a plan for 6 of us to start another full campaign of it. Ultimately other games and even ironically, I think Baldur’s Gate 3 put a halt on the progress, and we have yet to return to that attempt.

BG3 is massive in terms of content. The gameplay does take a bit of getting used too coming from BG1 and BG2, but I feel the changes and slight learning curve are certainly worth it. All 4 of us enjoyed every second of game play, we put into BG3. We have sparked new campaigns on occasion and sometimes come back to visit it every now and then. My son and I also got ahold of the save for the original campaign we ran, with hopes to eventually continue our adventure and achieve one of the other possible endings one day.

Outward Definitive Edition turned into the epitome of an epic adventure! It fell well outside the realm of a game my wife (Qvaid) would typically look at, and in truth it surprised me quite a bit that it caught her interest. We picked it up on a whim during a Steam seasonal sale. We loved it so much we picked up the DLC we were missing for it, fairly early on.
Outward DE is an absolute fantastic game! Qvaid and I loved every second of the 598.4 hours we poured into it (to date). The class and magic system in Outward is by far one of the most unique I’ve encountered in some time! It can certainly have a punishing aspect, and the grind especially in co-op game play can be a bit brutal. Qvaid and I found our own method to deal with that so we could get to the adventure, story, and fun Outward had to offer.
We completed all 4 faction quests, and over the course of the game play we put in we worked through quite a few of the parallel quests as well. I suspect there could be a dungeon or camp we missed, even a nook or cranny we didn’t quite get to explore. We did make an attempt to truly explore everything we could or at least had interest in. Nine Dots did such an incredible job with this game!

I’ll admit that I’ve looked into this game several times since its release. My younger self would have jumped at the opportunity to play a game of this caliber. I loved the books I did manage to read, and all the movies I’ve watched. I’ve spent some time pouring over fan sites picking up tidbits of the lore here and there as well. Error (my son) recently gifted me this masterpiece of a game. I can’t say where I’ll manage the time to work through a solo play RPG, but I’ve already started a bit of an adventure, and hope to see many more to come until I manage to complete it.
