While it will also be mentioned in the upcoming Hobbit Plays post, I felt the need to mention that on Wedneday, March 5th, 2025, Qvaid and I completed the final faction quest for Outward Definitive Edition.
We enjoyed ever single second of the 598.4 hours we poured into this game. It was epic adventures beyond anything we’ve encountered gaming together thus far!
The last legs of our journey ended with the Sorobor Academy. It being one of the fastest runs we’ve had in Outward to date, although to be fair, by this point we had a lot of the quests and areas in memory. We blazed through the build and quest line of New Sirocco, having completed all of the Sorobor Academy faction quest line and the Rust and Vengeance quest lines.
Qvaid and I started out in a rough spot, in this marvelous piece of art. We actually gave up on the very first run we started. We lost the Lighthouse in Cierzo, we were freezing to death under the docks on the beach side of town. Through research and grit we eventually found our way, and started over on what became our first run and completion of Outward DE.
The adventures and laughs along the way have been an incredible experience. In truth, it is a bit of a somber moment for me. Qvaid and I poured so much time into Outward, I’m a bit sad to see it near its end for our adventuring.
The only complaint Qvaid and I have concerning Outward DE would be the way rewards go in co-op game play isn’t quite what Qvaid and I hoped for. We do ‘get’ why it was done the way it was, as we’ve heard it was Nine Dots intention for people to play co-op for one player to finish up their faction quest, then swap over to that other player’s game for them to finish up their faction quest. In our case we just wanted to work through the faction quest together as we both agreed on ‘what faction’ to choose, and felt like having to repeat them later for the same faction was a bit more grindy than necessary.
Outward DE offers a fairly unique combat, class, and magic system to a saturated gaming market. It is a beautiful mix of souls-like combat with a combination of only what your gear and your abilities can eventually offer. A truly epic adventure, made all the more grand only by the person you choose to take along for the stories to be made along the way. Outward DE is an amazing game, but I’m here to tell you that playing co-op with someone makes it so much better!
Qvaid and I both are truly looking forward to the upcoming release of Outward 2! It’s on my wishlist in Steam! The both of us are so hopeful for another great round of adventures it might have to offer!
