This weekend consisted of some great games and great times. Gaming is certainly one of my zens. I very much enjoy it, albeit, almost to a level of addiction. I have gotten better about making time for family and other things, although, it still gets a good portion of my time as scheduling allows. I also do have the added benefit of having a wife that also likes to game, and we spend a good bit of our time together running through games we’ve selected to play together on several week days. In any case, on to this weekends game play!

Days played: All week
Players: Hobbit
Comments: Just the usual daily quests, event dailies, and typical SW shenanigans!

Days played: Unknown
Players: Error, Kilen, Hobbit
Comments: We had several game sessions of this difficult classic! I still say the depth of this game is hard to find in many other survival games today. My gaming group loves to joke that my true love of this games comes from the fact that I can wash my hands (and body for that matter in game). I can’t say it’s entirely not true, as quite often, if I’ve disappeared, I’m in a kitchen or bathroom cleaning up!

Players: Error, Hobbit
Comments: Sadly, no one in our gaming group joined my son and I for a run through FT13THTG this weekend. In truth, we only had a handful of matches. The game is scheduled to halt sales in the Steam client after December 31st, 2023, and might be dying off entirely on December 31st, 2024. Given the recent runs my son and I have encountered, I’ll be very surprised if it makes it to the projected date in 2024. The lobbies seem to be rampant with people cheating, dropping the game, or trolling. We have certainly had quite a few matches with some great people, but unfortunately for us both, none of them were available this weekend.
Age of Empires III Definitive Edition
Days played: Unknown
Players: Error, Eldon, Kilen, Hobbit, and Eldon’s Wife
Comments: At a high recommendation from Eldon (my brother), whom is also a part of our small gaming group, several of us loaded up Age of Empires III: Definite Edition to do some test runs of the game, and played a few good matches. As I expected, I’m not great at the game, although, I did show a bit of improvement as the matches progressed. Over all, several of us at least enjoyed the game. The design of the game is pretty nice, although it is a bit confusing to me as a new player. Fortunately my brother and his wife (I can’t recall her Steam tag/game name) were hosting the matches and able to explain things that helped us all get rolling pretty well. Our last few matches, on Sunday, I didn’t do horrible, I’m just not that great at RTS games in general. I enjoy many aspects of them, but tend to be slow at building because I try to place things in a manner that I like as opposed to just plopping down buildings and rolling out units like the majority of those games have evolved too. Especially when you are trying to defend against ‘zerg’ like attacks from players and the computer opponents!
