Another great week of gaming for this week in Hobbit Plays! In some cases, our game play evolves to people playing what they are in the mood for, while chatting in Discord. Even that is still an enjoyable experience for me though.
The majority of the week days were early gaming before work started (when I woke up early enough), and automated things I can run in the background as I work. Caravans in The Quinfall are usually the easiest thing to do that with, but I did do a bit of refining in No Man’s Sky when I needed to get it done, and it is automated once you start the process.
I was certainly impressed with the number of people we had playing No Man’s Sky over the course of the weekend. Even if some of it was sporadic and/or short for several of the gang!
Saturday morning-ish, I was met with an issue running games in Steam on Fedora 43 KDE Plasma Desktop. I was able to remedy the situation with TimeShift and a command to relabel files for SELinux to keep the onslaught of SELinux Alerts at bay. After digging into it for a bit, I found it was very likely related to a Mesa 25.2.7.2 update that was pushed through to stable.
I’ll try to get to testing some things as scheduling allows sometime this week. Hopeful to get things back into normal routine concerning my desktop. Prior to this fiasco, I’ve updated Fedora 43 pretty much as they updates come out with nothing really to report in terms of issues. I’d be lying if I didn’t add, that I was a bit disappointed by how this played out though.

Highlights

Days played: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Players: Qvaid, Hobbit
Comments: Qvaid and I picked back up this week where we left off; Working on gathering studs, character tokens, and House Crests in the stages of Years 1 – 4. We made some decent progress on Monday evening, and plan to start back on those collections again during our next few game sessions. At least until we have them all caught back up, or the best we can do in any case.
On Tuesday evening, Qvaid and I continued the process of walking through Years 1 – 4 to collect all the True Wizard, Students in Peril, and House Crests. By Wednesday evening as we were about to call it we had completed all of those tasks on Years 1 – 4!
On Thursday evening, Qvaid and I started Years 5 – 7 of Lego Harry Potter.
At first glance, it appears there were some modifications to mechanics to some extent. We adapted, and are still enjoying the game. Although, I will admit, I’m a bit disappointed by the fact that it makes you effectively start over. I don’t know why, but I was under the impression some of our progress from Years 1 – 4 might carry over.
Even still, Qvaid and I certainly are enjoying the game a good bit. It’s a bit like an interactive movie with what’s say, Cliff Notes. You get a general idea of what might be going on, but more so in a PG rated kind of manner. It does have me wanting to finish reading the series to say the very least. I have all the books, and I read all the way up to Order of the Phoenix. Judging by the book marker, I’d say I was about half way through it. Scheduling became an issue as I used to read before I went to bed, but that was some time ago…
Currently it seems I’m playing with a wonky controller. Alas, the trusty PowerA (XBox) controller I have seems to be showing some signs of early retirement. The is a LOT of play in the left joystick, and the A button sticks frequently. I’ve been managing the issues the best I can, but I suspect I’ll need to replace it, and replace it soon.

Days played: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Players: Kilen, Hobbit
Comments: As per the status quo, all of the Monday – Thursday game sessions were mostly early morning play before work. Things like completing the daily board quests, tending to the live stock, and perhaps a caravan run in the background once the work day started.
The caravan runs have slowed down a bit for me at the time of this note at least. As I’ve stated before, I’ve worked up a decent amount of coin over the last few weeks, and I’m a bit of a way off from being able to upgrade my gear. In truth, pets and gear upgrades are where the majority of my coin tends to flow.
Still with the attempts to level pets, I need other pets to feed them, so I have been keeping up with that a decent bit when I can. I try to catch them for a good price in the Central Market! It happens, but more often than not, they tend to hover around the 700K range, which is not a feasible number when it takes as many pets to upgrade their quality as it does.
In a bit of irony, and somewhat a matter of scheduling, this weekend we didn’t really have any adventures in The Quinfall. As a matter of fact, the gameplay I had on Friday was the end of it for me. I had done daily board quests, tended livestock, and worked on a few odd and ends here and there.
To be fair, there were plans to do some dungeon runs, but between the distractions I had and the distractions Kilen had, we never really did get around too that.
I would have been up for it at some point, but given the way scheduling worked out for most of us, I suspect the route we took in NMS probably just worked out better over all for everyone else.
For me it is also a bit of a dilemma. As it stands there isn’t much I can do as Life Staff outside of caravans, daily board quests, tending to livestock, gathering resources, and/or farming crops without a group or a friend online to dou with.
I admit it could be the way I built the character, which is generally all healing abilities. I have some damage spells, but it doesn’t seem likely that ‘I’ can do much content solo. This leaves me with little options for other things when no one I’m gaming with is online.
Given, I just haven’t been in a resource gathering mood as of late, I typically either just log out once I’ve finished the usual routine and play something else for the now.

Days played: All Week
Players: Aces, Eldon, Kilen, Hobbit
Comments: Much like with The Quinfall, the majority of my game play on Monday – Thursdays has been game sessions before my work day started. In some cases they are short, as it all depends on how early I get up and have available before my work day starts. Occasionally, I might leave it up in the background to work on things I can automate to some extent, like refining materials for example.
Early Thursday morning, I got up and got a bit of some NMS in before my work day started. Time flies as the saying goes, so it was time to get ready for work before I knew it, but it was still a great bit of fun, no doubt!
Early Friday morning, I once again woke up a bit early and managed to get a few things done on No Man’s Sky before the work day started. I picked up three new frigates for my fleet, and started two frigate expeditions. My RNG for that has been a bit terrible, but after speaking with Eldon, I believe I was being a bit careless on how many ships I sent together on each expedition. Hopefully that will improve!?
*WARNING SPOILERS BELOW*
Over the course of the weekend, I completed the Artemis and Atlast quest lines. I choose to reset the simulation and choose the Green Galaxy for my jump.
Quite a few of us loaded up No Man’s Sky over the weekend. The game play was mostly chat as each of us worked on things we were hoping to accomplish, but the experience was still pretty stellar for me at least!
NMS is by far my favorite game! I was really enjoying watching streams of what everyone was doing, talking about it, comparing our tech, ships, bases, etc…
I ended the evening a bit earlier on Sunday with a bit of a change in how I setup Outpost bases. I also had started walking through some of them, and effectively gathering resources I’d left there, and dismantling some of the bases I felt like I no longer wanted or needed.
I got side tracked in the process, and left off after dismantling my Spicy Shire OP base which was on a hot planet.
I’ll try to pick back up on some of that work as scheduling allows.
