I managed not only to chalk up a great week of gaming this week, but some good ole fashioned family time as well! It was a remarkable week my friends! A remarkable week indeed!
On Sunday Qvaid and I managed to wrangle up Error and his family, and Munchkin (Our daughter) and her husband over for dinner. Qvaid cooked up some breaded fried fish, rice, homemade french fries, and hush puppies, and we all sat around the table with my mother, and had a great time talking, laughing, and catching up with everyone.
Prior to the dinner plans, Error and I took a walk with the grand kids and the dogs. It was a bit toasty over the course of the walk, but the temperatures settled down as we returned home and sat outside while the kids ran around and played until dinner was ready.
The weather was almost Fall-like, which is something extraordinary for our area. I mean we average about a week or so of Fall before the ‘winter-ish’ weather starts. 😉
While it might appear some of our buddies were not able (or willing) to join us for some weekend gaming, several of them did manage to get some solo game sessions going. There were quite a bit of Honorable Mentions this week (see below). Some of the Honorable Mentions have been a bit difficult to track as of late. We have several friends gaming outside of Steam, and I don’t have all the game launchers loaded these days. Generally my game play tends to revolve around: Steam, Battlenet, and Bottles (Linux based WINE emulation).
In any case, while we’d love to have the gang all gaming together, I’m really just happy to know that at least they are finding time for some game, even if it has to be a solo game play session.
Game long, my friends. Game hard.

Highlights

Days played: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Players: Qvaid, Hobbit
Comments: On Monday evening, Qvaid and I managed to complete the quest concerning the mana relays we were working on.
At a glance it would appear this ‘completed’ the Underworld expansion for Dysmantle.
We also gathered some dig sites, and finished up some of the things we found via the sonar features in the link towers for each area. Although we were not quite done with the Underworld just yet. We ended up heading back in and calling it at one of the camp sites for the night to see what kind of shenanigans we can get into on Tuesday evening, presuming scheduling works out as intended.
On Tuesday evening, Qvaid and I finished up some things we had going on in the Underworld, and moved back to the Island for a bit more adventure. We ended up having to do a bit of research, but found we could make ‘Mana Chunks’ on our own via smelters.
This lead us to head back to a base we were building, create another room for a work shop, and we placed down some work benches such as smelters, saw mills, a recycler, storage box, etc…
We finished up the night exploring areas of the Island we have not yet uncovered. To be fair, there are still plenty of areas on the base game (The Island) we have not yet even set foot in.
It’s been a wild but incredible adventure thus far! Looking forward to see what more it has to offer before we head towards completing, Dysmantle!
Thursday evening held a bit of a shorter session for Qvaid and I. We were planning to watch a tv show later in the evening before bed so we called it at a time frame that reflected those choices.
Unfortunately for us, the show wasn’t going to air on Hulu until Friday, so it was ultimately all-for-naught as it were.
Even still, we had a great week of adventures in Dysmantle and have been making some excellent progress through out the Underworld, The Island, and even a bit on the Doomsday expansion (although that was placed on a bit of a hold). We’ve managed to get up to a very decent character level, and have been walking through areas attempting to find all the teleporters, dig sites, mana rifts, etc…
Dysmantle was certainly worth every penny we invested into it and the expansions! It’s a pretty large game with a fairly diverse set of mechanics and humor.
Truly has been a blast!

Days played: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Players: Eldon, Kilen, Hobbit
Comments: As per the norm, the majority of the week days on Monday – Thursday were early morning logins to complete board quests, check the Central Market, perhaps a bit of gathering, etc… If I’m logged in after work starts, I’m generally just auto-fishing or standing in my home in the City, checking the Central Market occasionally during breaks from work.
Kilen and I both have been super jazzed about the recent changes in the game. It’s helped us get back into dungeon crawling, exploration, and some farming of mobs in the open world. Don’t get me wrong, I can grind the resource gathering as much as the next player, but occasionally you just want to go into a dungeon and see what is possible!
Asides from the ever continued grind of resources for leveling trade skills, Kilen and I did manage to get a decent number of dungeon runs in over the Saturday and a bit of Sunday.
Much to our surprise, Eldon even managed to join in on a few of the runs with us! We ran through Grim Point on Hard a few runs, and then a run of Deep Maze on Hard as well.
The run of Deep Maze was a bit of a mixed bag as we kept getting clapped by the boss! We did manage to turn the tides and came out victorious in the end though!
Most of the issue was poor timing and just getting used to some of the mechanics of the fight. That trail of fire that rolls through the room is, well FIRE!
Once we got it all down, we squeaked out a victory on what turned out to be the final run of Sunday evening.
Having spent the majority of the weekend going to be really late (like, too late), and waking up at a time that didn’t really warrant enough sleep. It all caught up too me fairly fast on Sunday when I called it.
I’m still really enjoying the game though, and it was an incredible way to end my weekend gaming sessions!

Days played: Saturday
Players: Error, Kilen, Hobbit
Comments: I know I proclaimed this game was retired, especially given the fact that the online servers had been shutdown. But where there is a will, there is a way.
Error came across a possibility for us to relive our terrifying moments of running from the ever famous Jason Voorhees once again.
As it turns out, there is a community modification that can be made to the Steam game that will allow you to play a limited bit of Online play. Error, Kilen, and I were able to get it running later in the evening on Saturday, and enjoyed quite a few games together.
There are downsides to the new modifications. It would seem all the campers are filled with bots if there are not enough players for this server. The ping is also a bit high, but it doesn’t make it completely unplayable so at least there is a positive side of the coin here.
I know I enjoyed it, and Error was ecstatic about the situation. All three of us were pretty sad to see the game get closed down back in December of 2024. We had only just begun some adventures in Friday the 13th The Game, and they were certainly short lived.
I suspect we would have played it a bit more, but towards the end the number of cheaters in the game just grew to a level that made it near impossible to enjoy what remained of the game until its shutdown.
It looks like we have ‘some’ options to relive them once more for at least a bit.
On a somewhat related note, the developers of this game are making a Halloween version of it. And… There is some talk of perhaps a look at either reviving the game and/or a sequel of sorts to it!?

Days played: Sunday
Players: Eldon, Error, Kilen, Hobbit
Comments: Technically speaking, Eldon wasn’t available for the session Error, Kilen, and I played on Sunday earlier in the day. He joined Kilen for some R.E.P.O a bit later in the evening.
The session Error, Kilen, and I had was great, albeit a bit of a shorter one. Error had some time to jump in for some gaming, but I believe the intended time frame he had was cut a bit short.
We were off to a good start, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say we did have some pretty rotten luck on the run or so we attempted. Even still we had a good time roaming through the ruins collecting objects to sell back to the extractor in our attempt to beat the ever hard level 15.
