I’m still testing out a new format for the Hobbit Plays posts. At this point, I may not include updates for every day played, as I’ve noted in most cases it tends to be a repeat of the previous gaming session. I’ll try to include days that have some variation of something to share, but otherwise I’ll just group them together with a summary of sorts of what all transpired. Thus far, I prefer the new format quite a bit as it still displays what the schedule was like, without quite as many of the same images and duplicated text cluttering the post.
Thus far, changing out the cable for one of the Xbox controllers has resolved all issues with it, although we did encounter some issues with our game play of Darksiders Genesis, which had me wondering if something might still be up. Fortunately, it appears to have only been bugs with DSG, and I might add quite a bit of testing went into play to come to that conclusion!
Yet another week of good times and great gameplay, although the weekend game time was a bit of an odd sorts again. Even still, I always enjoy gaming, and gaming with friends and family make it all the more worth while! Game on! 🙂

Days played: Monday, Tuesday
Players: Qvaid, Hobbit
Comments: My wife and I were able to continue our adventures in Trine 5, and we believe we were on the final encounter of Trine 5 Monday night. We made a couple attempts at it, before ultimately calling it due to how late it was getting already. To be fair, it was already getting late by the time we landed to that point, and you know how it’s hard to resist the urge to at least ‘see’ the content before you turn in for the evening.
On Tuesday evening we got a fairly late start (had to run to Lowes to get a replacement spray nozzle for the kitchen sink), but we did managed to complete the 5th and final installment of the Trine series (at least at the time of this post) after we returned and that project was taken care of. You can take a peek at the completion post for Trine 5, here, should that interest you. The Trine series of games was an amazing adventure, and one of the few we were able to complete in a series like that. It was a bitter sweet moment for sure. Happy to have done it, but sad to see it come to a close.

Days played: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Players: Qvaid, Hobbit
Comments: After the completion of our Trine adventures, my wife and I started discussing the next possible gaming adventure. Ultimately, she decided to give Darksiders Genesis a shot, which you can read more about in the NH Post, here if you like. As I mentioned in that post, I was both in shock and joy over that decision. I love the Darksiders series of games, and I’ve always wanted to do a complete playthrough of Darksiders Genesis! I’m certainly hopeful that this might just be that play through! Of course that said, if my wife decides it isn’t for her, then we’ll just move on. Thus far though she seems to be enjoying it quite a bit, and it was certainly a great way to wrap up the Tuesday evening gaming with her!
We picked back up on Wednesday evening after everything settled down.
My wife and I dove back into some Darksiders Genesis on Thursday evening after the gang called it in NMS. We finished up with chapter 3 after a particularly rough run with the boss fight. Eventually my wife and I were able to formulate a plan that worked for us, and we were successful. By this time, it was already a bit later than we anticipated, so we got back to the Vulgrim’s Lair (I guess?), and saved there so we would be near a summon stone for when we were able to get back into Darksiders Genesis.
On Friday, my wife and I dove back into some more Darksiders Genesis, albeit, a very late start. We played until the wee hours of the morning on Saturday. Alas, this will be the last bit of news for this particular adventure. Unfortunately, with all the bugs we encountered, including one with the second player controller, and the just atrocious camera angle, my wife and I decided it was better time spent to just cut our loses on this adventure and to move on to other things. As far as I can recall, this is the first ‘completable’ game, that we decided to quit. Not because the story wasn’t good, or we hated the graphics, just because the experience was ruined by the poorly put together game, at least from a split/screen co op play through. It does make me sad, as I was hopeful to get the opportunity to complete one of the game series I really do enjoy. It’s not our fault that Airship & THQ Nordic let something so awful slip through their Q&A process… On another note, you can read more about the decision to stop this adventure, here, should that be of an interest.

Days played: Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Players: Error, Kilen, Eldon, Hobbit
Comments: On Thursday evening, I started off my night, by grabbing tech modules from my Shuttle to move to the new Exotic ship I bought last week. I had been stalling, and was anxious to get that new ship in service. As much as I like the shuttle’s storage, and the fact that it has 3 super charged slots, I’m thinking I’m going to replace it with a hauler with even more storage (if possible), and perhaps a higher class if I can manage it, albeit, doubtful since that shuttle is a class A. S Class Haulers are expensive! Ultimately we all visited a few of Eldon’s bases, and things started to kind of dwindle down from there until it was time for everyone to call it for the night.
On Friday and Saturday night the gang and I played some more NMS, although it was a bit of an odd night. Eldon and Kilen went MIA and my son called it fairly early for a Saturday evening. While the gameplay was still a great bit of fun, there wasn’t anything to report other than we flew around exploring, gathering resources, working on quests, and ultimately having a great time, even if that time was cut a bit short on Saturday.

Days played: Saturday

Comments: On Saturday evening, after an odd turn of events for our usual gameplay, the gang called it and/or went MIA for an extended period of time. I asked my wife if she’d like to game a bit, and she happily agreed. The problem we encountered, however, was we were bouncing on our previous adventure with Darksiders Genesis due to an ungodly amount of bugs and horrible experience. This left us scouring the Steam store, and internet in search of our next adventure. It so happened we stumbled upon a DLC for Trine 4, that somehow we missed! Trine 4: Melody of Mystery was awaiting! I asked my wife if she was interested, and with a huge grin, I could tell she certainly was. It just so happened it was on sale! (BONUS!), and we were off! As it turns out, since we had already completed Trine 4, it unlocked a part of the map, and we could literally just dive right into the new content. We played until the wee hours of Sunday morning, and were both incredibly excited for the opportunity to play more of a series we truly loved! There is a short post on it here, should it be of an interest.

Days played: Sunday
Players: Family Time
Comments: In a surprise moment of game play, my son’s wife and my wife wanted to play a bit of D&D. We picked back up on a campaign we started back in December of 2023, and managed to finish up a boss fight we left off on. My son runs some D&D campaigns here and there for the family that wants to participate. It was some great fun, and we did progress a bit further than our usual game play, albeit, we had to break for dinner later in the evening, and due to the sheer exhaustion of everyone (myself included), we didn’t manage to get back to it afterwards. Perhaps we will get the opportunity at the next family night, but as much as we all love it, we’ll just have to see how the schedule plays out.
