This week was chalked full of more variety and great times! So much so, organizing it in a proper manner was a bit of a task. It might not be the best, but I did what I could. I also had a fairly busy day, which is why the Hobbit Plays Post is considerably late today. Better late than never though, right!? Right!?
There are some decent honorable mentions this week, everything from TCG Cardshop Simulator to Minecraft. Technically speaking, Minecraft would have earned a Highlight spot, but… We jumped back and forth between which version to play until finally the group landed on Minecraft Bedrock due to a technicality for Error’s wife who was playing on Xbox.
I’ve looked into Minecraft Bedrock and found it was possible to run in Linux. Unfortunately, the only options I found required a license for the Google Play Store. I already have both the Java and Bedrock version, and so I couldn’t help but feel like that route wouldn’t work for me. I decided I’d just do a minimal Windows 11 Pro install on a SSD I wasn’t using to work around it. That of course meant, I was out for the night. I told Error, Qvaid, and Error’s Wife they should go ahead and play and I’d catch up later in the week. However, by that point everyone was getting ready to turn in for the night. To be fair we did kind of get a late start for 4 different people on 4 different devices to get things up and running.

Highlights

Days played: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Players: Qvaid, Hobbit
Comments: As the saying goes, all good things must eventually come to an end. Qvaid and I really enjoyed what River Tails Stronger Together had to offer.
We had suspicions we were closing in on the end of our adventures as Furple and Finn as we finished up our gaming session on Tuesday evening.
Alas on Wednesday evening, we did in faction complete our run of this wonderful, fun, and humorous adventure!
I’ll be the first to admit that there were times the camera angle could be a bit of a fuss. That said, I never felt like it was too a point where Qvaid and I could not work around it. We tend to take our time, and put in the practice where it has to be done.
A few times, Qvaid and I would swap our controllers in situations where she was struggling, or perhaps she felt like her skills might be better for certain activities.
In the end, we didn’t come anywhere near to a 100% completion of River Tails, but we had our fun and enjoyed this bit of treasure from Kid Onion Studio!

Days played: Wednesday, Thursday
Players: Qvaid, Hobbit
Comments: With the completion of our run of River Tails, Qvaid and I are off to a good start in this flashy piece of work by VEA Games. We both agree that it gives off a bit of Crash Bandicoot / Mario Brothers / Sonic-esque like vibe.
Over all the experience thus far has been fantastic. It runs well in Linux, works great with our Xbox controllers (PowerA generic Xbox controllers). It boasts a beautiful bit world, action, a bit of puzzles, and some humor. Pretty much all the things Qvaid and I look for in a good co-op game play experience.
Much like the last few games we’ve finished up on a Thursday, I am again highly suspicious we might be close to the end of Nikoderiko: The Magical World as we finished up our gaming session on Thursday evening.
I checked just shortly before adding to the comments here and we are sitting at something around 9.2 hours at the boss of the 5th world, I believe. I could be mistaken, but I believe the game has an over all 7 worlds to complete with multiple stages in each world.
We have collected all 2 keys, the Diamon, and the NIKO letters in quite a few of the stages, albeit, not quite a 100% in all. In truth, I’m not sure if we will strive for that or not at this time. If the numbers are correct though, I suspect that might put it at a completed run sometime early next week.

Days played: Saturday
Players: Eldon, Error, Kilen, Hobbit
Comments: Eldon surprised us with his presence on Saturday after we all picked up the Dying Light: Enhanced 10th Anniversary Bundle over the course of the week.
That session, while not without its interruptions was quite a pleasant introduction into a game that had somehow been under our radar for some time. I mean, we had all heard the name at some point, it just was not a game we looked into.
There isn’t a base building aspect too Dying Light, but wow what a show! Parkour survival running from slews of zombies! And for the love! Getting caught out after dark is HORRIFYING! ABSOLUTELY, TERRIFYING!
Needless to say, my initial impression of Dying Light enthralled me! It has plenty of action, and an interesting take on game mechanics. I’m certainly hopeful that this game in particular stays in our cycle of game play for some time!
It has me pondering the purchase of Dying Light 2 already! I’ll probably wait for another good Steam Seasonal sale to hit though to be honest. I have enough games to keep me occupied until then.
On a side note, the game runs fantastic in Fedora 41 KDE Plasma. I did have to enable Proton 9 to play multiplayer though. I kept getting kicked from the game otherwise.

Days played: Saturday, Sunday
Players: Aces, Error, Kilen, Hobbit, DNC
Comments: After Eldon had to call it, Error, Kilen, and I took a short break and hopped into 7 Days to Die where we were met by Aces and DNC for some zombie apocalypse shenanigans!
There were some stalls and a bit of some interruptions there as well, but we managed to roll through some trader quests, crafting, combat, and great times!
As the night dwindled on, Error, and Kilen had to call it. I followed up with a few more trader quests with Aces and DNC before I too decided it was time to turn in for the evening.
When I left they were still working through all the usual spill, although I can’t say what or when they left off on. Only that all of us that was able to participate certainly had a great time.
As far as I know, Error and I were the only ones that played on Sunday. I suspect maybe Aces and DNC might have later in the evening, but by that point the majority of us had called it to prep for the work week ahead.

Days played: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Players: Eldon, Kilen, Hobbit
Comments: Technically speaking, I don’t think any of us played No Man’s Sky together over the course of the weekend. We all joined up in Discord and had a chat here and there, discussed what we were doing, and how the latest expedition was playing out.
I believe I started mine the latest of the group. I kept getting side tracked with other things. Several of us didn’t even start until Sunday. I can’t really say for the rest of NH, but I only made it a little way in before I logged to see about some Minecraft with Qvaid, Error, and his wife (no game name yet that I know of).
Love being able to go back and read the adventures we have shared
