Hobbit Plays: 03.17.25 – 03.23.25

Hobbit Plays News

Well, there was certainly some gaming done over the course of this week! With Qvaid and I finishing up several games, and starting a new one, and the gang hopping into numerous games in search of adventure. I had quite the bit of variety this week indeed!

No complaints though, it was all great times! Filled with laughter, ribbing, jokes, and quality fun! Aces was kind enough to rent a 7 Days to Die server for the lot of us to play on, and as it would seem we were all ready to make a run in one of our favorite zombie apocalypses!

Eldon and his wife did hop onto the 7DtD server for a bit on Sunday, but they were mostly testing the waters to see what had changed since last they played. They both were making a go at survival on their own terms about 4 kms away from our head quarters. It was also pretty close to where they started with what seemed to be a bit of a limited time to play.

We had several group based conversations in Discord as well over the course of the weekend, and just a great time in general hanging out in those cases where we all could not game together due to scheduling.

Over all, the week was fantastic for me to say the least. I enjoyed every bit of gaming with Qvaid, and the weekend was incredible as well gaming with the gang! So much variety on both fronts, this might be one of the largest Hobbit Plays posts to date!

On a side not to the Hobbit Plays posts, I’ve decided to do things a bit differently on the Honorable Mentions. They are becoming a bit much to keep up with giving the state of the group as a whole at this point. As such, the games mentioned there will mostly be those I see in solo game play, and subject to what I’ve been told by the group and/or seen through out the course of the week. No descriptions at this point as the list of people can be rather large and it was starting to become a task to not only gather the data, but then find something to type about it. 🙂

Highlights

Days played: Monday

Players: Qvaid, Hobbit

Comments: It would seem my suspicions that Qvaid and I were close to finishing up Split Fiction were indeed correct.

We completed up our run of Split Fiction later on Monday evening. It was both an experience of overwhelming victory…and… moments sprinkled with a touch of sadness.

The game was absolutely fantastic! Qvaid and I were a bit sad to see it come to an end. Even still, we got a decent bit of play time from the game, and in truth we didn’t collect many of the achievements or finish up all the side stories it has to offer. Although we did get the majority of the side stories done, it appears we somehow skipped over at least two in our grand journey through sci-fi and fantasy as Mio and Zoey.

Qvaid and I discussed the possibility of playing through the chapters to get the side stories wrapped up, but much to my disappointment, we decided to move on to the next adventure for now.

Days played: Tuesday, Wednesday

Players: Qvaid, Hobbit

Comments: Qvaid and I completed our run of A Way Out on Wednesday.

Over all, it was a relatively short game with just 7.9 hours in total based on the Steam Hours Played listed.

I suspect it could certainly be completed faster, but it is rare Qvaid and I get in a hurry to finish up a game.

I should also note, we sometimes have to pause a game to take care of some things on our game nights. Phone calls, dogs need out, etc… Usual real life kind of things.

Ultimately, Qvaid and I both thought the game was another amazing addition to our Hazelight collection we’ve played over the years. As I mentioned in our A Way Out – Complete post, the only complaint either of us had was the options for ending the game. Neither of us cared for either option in truth.

Days played: Thursday

Players: Qvaid, Hobbit

Comments: Qvaid and I started our play through of River Tails: Stronger Together on Thursday. Having completed our run of A Way Out we looked through our list of games and I had recently picked this up as a potential candidate for us to play on our game nights.

The start was a bit slow, I admit, but ultimately the game is turning out to be a rather nice addition. I can’t say that it competes with the likes of Split Fiction in a sense, but it has been fun once the momentum picks up after the start.

We played it through the entirety of our gaming session on Thursday evening, and as far as I can tell we are both enjoying the game quite a bit.

Qvaid is playing as Furple (kitten) and I am Finn (fish). I did note some complaints in Steam reviews about the camera, which Qvaid and I can both attest too. The issues concerning the controller input and reactions and such haven’t been a problem for us so far, although I imagine we are still fairly early into the game.

Days played: Friday, Sunday

Players: Kilen, Hobbit

Comments: Kilen and I had a decent bit of No Man’s Sky over the course of the weekend. Mostly just the usual shenanigans of play.

Technically speaking Kilen played a bit on Saturday as well as he finished up Expedition 17: Titan. He worked through it some on Friday before calling it a night. I was tempted to hop in on Saturday at some point, but we got to our normal bit of game play as a group.

Kilen and I also hopped back into No Man’s Sky later in the evening on Sunday after things had settled down with the group.

Typically speaking we would normally have jumped back into 7DtD, but I figure with the time being what it was on a Sunday, we were both more inclined to have some chill game play in NMS to finish out the weekend.

I’m not positive on what all Kilen was working on, I jumped around from working on the Atlas Path, to a few additions to my Captial Ship, and some gear work.

Days played: Saturday

Players: Error, Kilen, Hobbit

Comments: We had a decent session of Sons of the Forest on Saturday.

I’ll be the first to admit that some of the combat mechanics in SoTF really drive me bonkers. I don’t really have enough hours under my belt to be of great use, but I was starting to see some improvements before our session ended for the day.

We managed to find an absurd number of golf carts, and also these Knight V devices that were kind of fun. We all ended up with one at some point, and we carried those back to the house boat we’ve been using as a sort of mobile base.

There are quite a few mechanics in Sons of the Forest that seem a bit unbalanced to ‘me’, but there are also some features and aspects I enjoy as well.

The gathering of food can be an interesting bit of work, and they’ve certainly added quite a bit of new recipes.

Ultimately we still haven’t established a good head quarters of any kind, but it was still a decent amount of fun.

We all had to bounce for a bit around the same time, which I believe was something like 2:00 PM CST, and from there for whatever reason, we never made it back to SoTF.

Days played: Saturday

Players: Aces, Error, Kilen, Hobbit

Comments: After all of us had returned from our recent break, we decided to hit up some Phasmophobia. It didn’t really come as much of a surprise to me, and we have been having some great times in the horror survival game!

We were joined by Aces before we started a match, and for our first run yet we had a full 4 people!

We managed to get through a few rounds, before I had to take another break for a bit. I believe it was to head to dinner, as by that time we were well into the later part of the afternoon.

By the time I made it back, the adventures of ghost hunting were at its end for our gaming group.

Days played: Saturday, Sunday

Players: Aces, Error, Kilen, Hobbit

Comments: As I was finishing up some chores after dinner on Saturday, Error (my son) called to let me know the gang was going to be playing some 7 Days to Die after the rounds of Phasmophobia.

I found the news to be a bit ironic given I had recently posted about how we have not played the game in some time. I was more than ready for the challenge. Or so I thought.

In the start of our run over those two days (Saturday and Sunday), I’ve managed to die twice already. Technically speaking, both cases were of my own stupidity.

The first time, I was thirsty and hungry and had been for some time. I was digging out the underground base for the better part of the first evening in game, and low stamina was certainly an issue by the point. Aces was running back to the base with a slew of zombies in tow after having been out past the zombie apocalypse dinner bell.

This means all zombies run, no matter the level, no matter the type, no matter your pleas for a brief time out. They will all run, and they are all hungry. I busted out of the under ground tunnel, and started swinging. In no time my character’s stamina reserves were shot, and I was left running backwards, saving the strike for the zombie that managed to catch up too me at the time. This tactic worked far longer than I suspected it would, but alas, eventually, my luck ran out, and I found myself at the bottom of a zombie dog pile, being torn to shreds and made into human pulled pork sandwiches for their zombie bbq.

On the second death, Kilen and I were on Sunday running around doing quests for the Trader we made our base close too. Well we hit a military based quarantine zone. Kilen found himself in a bit of trouble with two military ferals on him. I managed to get in and help, but took too many hits, and ended up caught against a building while backing away to give myself room. On the plus side, Kilen managed to slip away to safety while I was becoming human jerky for the two military ferals that jumped at the new source of food as I lost consciousness.

At last check in the game, all of us but Kilen have a death or two (or 3 for Aces) at this point. Kilen seems to have mastered the art of leaving us for dead at this point, so he was still good, alive, and no deaths on Sunday afternoon/evening when we logged off at some point for a break, and hit up some NMS when we got back.
