Hobbit Plays: 03.03.25 – 03.09.25

Hobbit Plays News

With scheduling the way it has evolved too lately, gaming has been a bit off the last couple weekends. The gaming sessions I have with Qvaid have been the norm for the most part. Falken and Iron have went MIA of sorts, and with Error only being available on Saturdays it’s been a bit of a mixed bag for the rest of us.

All that said, it was still an amazing week of gaming. I got in more time in No Man’s Sky, which you’ll NEVER hear me complain about. It is still by far my favorite game.

We did have some days where we just did some chatting together in Discord. While it’s not quite the same as gaming together, I still find it interesting to discuss what we are doing in whatever game we happen to be playing. Even if the game play might be a semi-solo game play fashion.

Contrary to the way the Hightlights might look, I did manage to game every day last week for the most part. Some of the game play was just solo for a spell here and there.

Sunday, we did have a bit of family time with Error and the fam coming up for a fantastic dinner. Error smoked some meats for us. It was all delicious!

As you’ll note below, Qvaid and I finished our 4th run in Outward Definitive Edition. The fastest run to date. I mean, we’ve played enough by this point where we can actually roll through the quest lines without having to look up too much. Save for the faction quest lines, because you ‘can’ make mistakes in your choices, and we were aiming for the best outcome we could manage.

The end of the Outward era is a bit of a somber moment for me. I have thoroughly enjoyed that game and all the adventures it had to offer. I am thankful that Qvaid enjoyed it enough for us to manage to fully complete all 4 faction quest lines. We got every bit of game play I believe we could from that masterpiece!

I’ll certainly miss it, no doubt, but I’m also glad we are off to a good start on a game we’ve been looking forward too since we found out about it a little while back. Split Fiction is turning into a grand set of adventures as well!

bi-ped 2 demo

On Wednesday evening after finishing up our final run in Outward Definitive Edition, Qvaid and I were looking something to finish out the night. Having played bi-ped together in co-op, I noted the bi-ped 2 demo was available, and we decided to load it up and give it a spin to bide us some time for the remainder of the evening. We will very likely be picking up the game once it becomes available, but given it is only a demo at this time, I didn’t add it to the games page, and felt like an honorable mention would suffice for the game play we experienced for that evening session.

7 Days to Die

I noted Falken was once again visiting the zombie apocalypse here and there over the course of the week in some 7 Days to Die. I found out through a bit of conversation in our FB messaging, that this is just a private game he’s been using to bide his time for a spell.

No Man’s Sky

On Friday and Sunday, I played some No Man’s Sky. Several of us were around in Discord, but we were mostly just chatting and doing our own thing in whatever game we were playing at the time.

The majority of my NMS sessions have been bouncing to galaxies with an Atlas interface for one of the primary quest lines. In quite a few of those jumps, it was a completely unexplored galaxy. I’ve fell back into the trap of discovering all the fauna in those galaxies before moving on to the next galaxy with an Atlas interface. I just can’t help myself! I love to explore, and I love to see what kind of fauna is on each planet!

I also got my Starborn Phoenix Starship that I claimed awhile back, and built it up the best I could to become my main Startship. I have the stats and technology up to par with my previous Sentinel Starship, but not quite as much storage space yet (I think). In truth most of the stats are at least equal, if not a touch better than the previous configuration of my Sentinel Starship.

Later Sunday evening, I left off after hopping to a new Atlas Interface Galaxy. I went to the Atlas, hit the Space Station, then completed discoveries on the first planet before time got away from me a bit, and I had to turn in for the night (albeit later than I should have for a work night, but not bad enough where I was in too much trouble.).

Highlights

Days played: Monday, Tuesday, Wedneday

Players: Qvaid, Hobbit

Comment: Qvaid and I worked through the final faction question for Outward Definitive Edition on our 4th run through the game.

We managed to complete the Sorobor Academy. Normally we do all the quests in Harmattan and the Antique Plateau last. On this run, we spent a very large portion of our time in those areas to work on the faction quest line.

While I found The Holy Mission to be one of the more power faction lines in terms of player pass skills and bonuses. The faction line for Sorobor Academy has to be one of my favorites.

This week we finished up the quests in Caldera and New Sirocco, defeating the Crimson Avatar and finally bringing peace to Aurai again for the 4th and possibly final time.

It’s a somber moment for me, and perhaps Qvaid too I suspect. We took quite a long time to finish up the game in an almost completed fashion, but we enjoyed every second of it. I’m a bit sad to see the end of this era at hand.

Of course, even with that said, there is nothing to say we might not play again here and there over time, but it won’t quite be the same.

Even still, I’m thrilled, Qvaid was enjoying the game enough to work through all 4 factions with me in co-op game play. It truly made the game so much more of an enjoyable experience.

We are looking forward to Outward 2 and all it might have to offer on release!

Days played: Thursday

Players: Qvaid, Hobbit

Comment: Qvaid and I got started on our run of Split Fiction on Thursday evening! We were both looking forward to this title!

We did lose track of time, and played a bit later than we intended too. It has been a fantastic start! The game play session was something like 5.6 hours in total, although to be fair there was at least a break or so in that with the game on pause.

Thus far, Split Ficiton has delivered EVERYTHING, Qvaid and I could have hoped for! I suspect we are still a bit early in all things considered.

It is packed with action, humor, a bit of puzzles, and most importantly that unique co-op game play we’ve come to expect from titles of Hazelight Studios!

I’ll be the first to admit that the sci-fi portion of the game is certainly a bit more intense than any of their previous titles, Qvaid and I have played to date. However, it has still been a blast for the both of us!

I was a bit worried that the new game might cause us some problems running in Linux. Fortunately, it fired right up with no need for any tinkering and shortly after we were embarked on what turned into an epic gaming session!

We effectively had to force ourselves to find a spot to call it for the late evening (technically early Friday morning).

Days played: Saturday

Players: Error, Kilen, Hobbit

Comment: Several of us really do love Hell Let Loose. We go through spurts of game play in HLL frequently. It’s a game of love and hate for many of us.

In a bit of irony the last few times we’ve played we’ve had some marginal success. It’s not to say we were epic, just that the games went better for us than they typically do. Especially the number of games we played over the course of Saturday.

What we do tends to be more aligned with how many people we have. If we have only 3, we try for an Armor squad, more than 3 we tend to go for infantry. I usually play a Medic. My skills are not stellar really, and I feel like it’s a role where I can at least feel like I’m accomplishing something meaningful for the group. Occasionally, I’ll play an officer if no one else is up for it, and we need a squad of our own due to the number of people we have.

The play style I dislike most would probably be the Sniper squad. It’s a two man operation, with a spotter (officer) and the Sniper. To be fair, it can be fun. I just don’t believe the skill level I have makes it a valid position for me to fill.

I’ve seen games where some of the players that did take the role are amazing. They are good at getting kills, but also good at scouting out where tanks, supplies, enemy troupes are coming from, etc…

I feel like it is an important role, and not really one to just be taken up by a group of friends wanting to see if they can rack up kills in an area that might not even matter in the over all battle.
