The gaming this week was stellar as usual! If you note the schedule below, I did manage at least a little time in No Man’s Sky every day of the week. Once again, it didn’t really make the Highlights of this week’s Hobbit Plays. Most, if not all of the NMS game play was solo for me. It seems I’ve found a bit of a balance for getting time in on my favorite game!
Iron and I worked on getting a new gaming server up, although we certainly ran into quite a few snags with some of the changes. Sadly as we ended the weekend, we still haven’t got those issues sorted out, but hopefully we will have it ready before the next weekend rolls in.
And then, the Dwarven adventures in Moria truly begin! It seems we might have quite a decent sized crew available if all this works out as planned! Possibly roster: Aces, DNC, Error, Falken, Iron, Kilen, and myself!
The Honorable Mentions was a bit lighter this past week than previous posts. Seems everyone might be settling on games they want to play either solo or with other groups in any case.
Discord was fire this weekend! At several points we had fair numbers of our friends gathered together for some catching up and game chat! While it didn’t necessarily led to us playing the same game, it was still nice to do a bit of catching up with all the groups (or mostly) together again!
Qvaid and I finished up our play through of UnPlugged and got a brief start on Cat Quest II (Hey, I know the name sounds crazy, but the game thus far has been fairly solid!). Thursday evening, Qvaid and I didn’t play any video games, and opted to join the family for some card games and good conversation. It was definitely nice to have all the young families over and together for the first time in a good while.
I mean we got together for the recent Holidays of course, but I mean just those out of the blue, visits. Enjoy those kids while you have them, they grow up far faster than you could ever imagine.
Game long, my friends. Game hard.

Highlights

Days played: Monday, Tuesday
Players: Qvaid, Hobbit
Comments: On Monday, Qvaid and I had everything in order to start a play through of Unplugged. Ironically a few stages in, we found out we were effectively making the game harder on ourselves as we had missed a key feature of the game early on.
It just so happens you can actually roll up your robot partner’s power cable (effectively) when they are close by and unplugged.
Prior to that, we were positioning ourselves in a manner which would fling our power cables towards each other in hopes that we didn’t end up in a manner that would leave it out of reach and mostly ‘dead in the water’ so to speak.
On the plus, we both busted out laughing when we learned of said feature!
Well, Tuesday evening marked the end of our adventures in UnPlugged for Qvaid and I. As we were getting ready to call it for the evening, we were looking for either a check point, or a level completion to stop at.
It turns out we ended up completing the game in the process!
Over all, it was a rather pleasant adventure, especially once we learned the mechanic to reel in your partner’s power cable. As a short game, it’s priced fairly well, so if co-op gameplay is your thing, you might see fit to give UnPlugged a look!

Days played: Wednesday
Players: Qvaid, Hobbit
Comments: On Wednesday evening, Qvaid and I got a little bit of a later start. Even still we got to dip our toes into the cool waters of the new adventure and were on our way to make legends shortly after.
We decided to start with story mode when we were presented the option at the start of our co-op adventure. We thought it would probably be the best method to get to see what the story was about, and get an over all feel for the game.
Thus far, neither of us are disappointed. It performed great on my desktop with our PowerA (Generic XBox) controllers, and we’ve certainly been enjoying the game design, mechanics, story, and humor!
In truth, my favorite thing about the game thus far is all the Easter egg like comments, and mentions of other games, movies, etc… I get the impression, the devs/publishers of this game, really know great content when they see it!
Error (our son) and Munchkin (our daughter) along with their families were down on Thursday evening, a bit after dinner. As such, we all ended up playing some card games and catching up, and Qvaid and I didn’t really get back around to Cat Quest II on Thursday as was planned.
It was still a fantastic time catching up with everyone. It’s been a bit since we’ve all been together at the same time, that wasn’t on a holiday, so Qvaid and I certainly enjoyed it very much!

Days played: Friday, Saturday
Players: Aces, DNC, Falken, Kilen, Hobbit
Comments: We had some grand adventures in Return to Moria over the course of Friday and Saturday!
Technically speaking Aces and DNC didn’t play with Falken, Kilen, and me. Aces jumped into Discord fairly late on Friday evening/early Saturday morning to see if I would be interesting in joining them on a campaign they were starting without the Durin’s Folk DLC. Unfortunately, by the time he got on, I was getting ready to turn in for the night, so I had to respectively decline the offer.
Otherwise I would have been all for it, I love gaming, and I’m certainly enjoying RtM! I was just already getting sleepy, and while I was on for a bit longer, it was just too late to start another fresh run of RtM.
Falken joined us some on Saturday evening, and Kilen and I continued those adventures a bit after Falken called it later in the night. We managed to push a bit further into the Crystal Descent although not far enough to establish a new permanent outpost there yet.
Ironically, we had plans to play on Sunday as well, but Iron and I were working on a dedicated server option that gave us fits, and ended up spending the majority of Sunday afternoon working on it. The sad part of that being, we were not successful in getting the dedicated server working.
Everything is in place, all the port forwards, remote connection options, etc… Just no luck yet on communication getting through.
