Hobbit Plays: 01.05.26 – 01.11.26

Hobbit Plays News

The variety on the docket this weekend was incredible! Sadly, No Man’s Sky didn’t really make the highlights this weekend. Several of us still played it, albeit, not really together. Since Error and I did in fact play Schedule I together quite a bit, I decided it should probably take the spot.

Eldon started playing a game called StarRupture which I have to admit, looks very interesting! Soon after, I noted several in our Honorary NH Members followed suit. We managed to watch a bit of the game play via our Discord channel briefly over the course of the weekend.

I admit, StarRupture definitely has a vibe to it that would typically keep the majority of our group interested. Although we did just start playing RtM again. I would love to give StarRupture a try at some point, right now, just doesn’t seem like the best of times to do so.

Technically speaking, Qvaid and I started a test run of Unplugged on Thursday evening. As I mentioned in the linked post, it was so little that I didn’t really even include it in this week’s Hobbit Plays. Mostly we just wanted to get it tested, and walk through some of the basic mechanics for the start of this week. It was too late to get too deep into it on Thursday evening in any case. Still, it looks to be like something right up our alley in terms of games we enjoy! Looking forward to see what it might hold in store for us!

An absolute slew of Honorable Mentions for this week! It seems everyone out there is testing out some of the new purchases from the previous Steam Winter Sale! I mean, we let everyone know we would be hopping into RtM this weekend, but alas, we didn’t get many takers. I digress, at least they are gaming. Ultimately, that is all that matters, am I right!?

Game long, my friends. Game hard.

Highlights

Days played: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Players: Qvaid, Hobbit

Comments: On Monday evening, Qvaid and I picked back up on our adventures in biped 2, which I expect to be the case until we’ve had our fill of the cute little robot personas, puzzles, humor, and co-op experience it provides.

We started on stage 5 and moved through as many stages as we could until it was close to the time frame we would typically call it a night. In truth we called it a bit earlier than normal, but mostly because we were of the impression that starting a new stage so late might not be a great idea.

Through out the week Qvaid and I continued working through the levels in biped 2. By a bit later in the evening on Thursday, ironically about the time we would normally call it, we completed our run of biped 2!

It was a fantastic adventure chalked full of humor, fun, co-op, and wonky robot shenanigans!

I’ll be the first to admit, biped 2 might not be for everyone out there. But if co-op games are your thing, it would certainly be worth a look at least in Qvaid and my opinions.

Days played: Friday, Saturday, Sunday

Players: Error, Hobbit

Comments: Error and I continued on building our Empire in our “Breaking Bad’ style game that is Schedule I.

Ultimately, we managed at least a little game play on Friday evening, various times on Saturday, and earlier in the afternoon on Sunday.

The game play can be a bit tedious in my opinion, but over all it isn’t a bad experience. There are some bugs that I’m hopeful the devs/publisher works through. The main one that seems to be problematic for Error and I thus far is picking up items seems to bug in multiplayer a decent amount.

I don’t particularly enjoy doing the deals, and as such my role has more or less transgressed into the manufacturing process of the, um, shall we say products we sell? Well that, and the occasional supply runs, dead drop pickups, etc…

You know asides from getting attacked by addicts, here and there. LOL

Still, I did a few deals over the course of our game play, albeit, still not something I enjoy per se. Error seems a bit enthralled with the game and just so happens to be a fairly big fan of “Breaking Bad.”

We are making decent profits, and progressing in our current play through, although we’ve both noted it seems to be quite a bit slower than in the game he plays on his own now and then.

It is a shame we can’t seem to get anyone else interested in the game, although given the somewhat dark nature of it, I suppose I can certainly understand their reluctance.

Days played: Friday, Saturday, Sunday

Players: Aces, Error, Kilen, Hobbit

Comments: We managed some pretty grand adventures in RtM over the course of Friday evening, later afternoon Saturday, and Sunday evening-ish.

As I mentioned in a previous post, we did decide to start fresh on this run. Over all, I think that was likely the best course of action. All of us had forgotten something about how the game mechanics work, and the refresher was certainly better than just dropping our selves off into the fray of higher game stages of our previous play through.

We did manage to progress story wise much faster than our previous run, making our way to the second outpost area (I think?).

Much like before, I feel like there is certainly some balancing that could improve game play mechanics. Mostly things like buffs from shrines, foods, etc… seem to have far to short of timers. In most cases you attempt to use them, and they are long worn off before you reach the last area you were exploring or adventuring as it were.

There are also some optimizations that could certainly improve game play at least in my opinion. I’m currently hosting the game on Arch Linux via my desktop. I’ve noted some stuttering here and there, in some cases a bit extreme and in others just a bit of an annoyance really.

I can’ recall everything about our previous run with certain, but it seems to be a bit worse to me. Not enough to keep us from playing (yet at least) mind you, but definitely noticeable to say the least.

While there are 4 of us listed in the players, technically speaking all of our runs was with 3 or less people. Error called it early on Sunday after some Schedule I game play, and Aces effectively took his place on that day, until he had to bounce to spend some time with the family.
