Deep Rock Galactic

Space dwarves, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship… Ok, maybe not. This game is jam packed with co-op fun for you and your gaming friends. It is one that hid under the radar from us for quite some time. We happened to notice it on a free to play weekend, and every one of us picked it up that weekend. Up to 4 players of various classes can perform missions deep within near by planets. It gets frequent updates and added content all for free with just the initial purchase of the game. Several of us loved it so much we purchased some skins and the supporter packs. You can play as one of the four classes: Engineer, Driller, Scout, or Gunner. It’s a lot like Lost Vikings on steroids! It helps to stick together in the areas as certain bugs (ie: aliens) can lock players down until they drop, and working together is almost an absolute must. I have yet to speak to someone that has this game, that did not love it!

Back 4 Blood

Current Status: Not Completed

Years! We waited for a sequel to the Left 4 Dead series for literal years! Back 4 Blood, was developed by a number of people originally associated with the Left 4 Dead series of games. It is loads of fun! Run with four of your zombie (Ridden) slaying friends across campaigns with some really neat new features like decks to aid you and your companions on your mission to clean up the ridden! Personally, I feel like the base difficulty could use quite a bit of tweaking (likely I’m just getting old), but otherwise it is another of those games that does not disappoint.

Left 4 Dead 2

Website: L4D2

Current Status: Completed

Left 4 Dead and Left for Dead 2 was one of the absolute first zombie games I recall getting into. We have so many hours into these now classic masterpieces. With mods from the community you can even move on to new sets of maps and gameplay. One of our favorites is Helm’s Deep! Even still the original campaigns and modes still boast plenty of hours of great times!

Killing Floor 2

Website: Killing Floor 2

Current Status: Not Completed

The pace of Killing Floor 2 is intense! It has the perfect blend of action, progression, and customization! There are also several modes, difficulties, and tons of maps you and your friends can shred into some Zeds and bosses in. I’m doubtful I’ll ever complete it per se, as most of our gameplay tends to be co-op based with 2 – 4 of us playing. It has been awhile since we’ve loaded up some KF2.

Hell Let Loose

“War is hell.” This is not your typical spawn and track kill to death ratio! 50 vs 50 in World War II combat! The audio, graphics, maps, interface, and combat all wrapped together to make a wonderful piece of art! Each side has a Commander and Squad Leaders, with a squad consisting of up to 6 people. There is a plethora of roles to choose from, each having their own set of tools, weapons, skills, strengths, and weaknesses. It certainly has some complexity, and just racking up those kills won’t bring your side the victory. You have to take territory, work together, and listen to your officers and veteran players. It offers a unique experience of just what war can really be like (at least when it comes to a video game).

Helldivers II

“Take back control of Freedom!” This game certainly has some Starship Trooper vibes going for it. A good portion of our gaming group has it, and it is a blast to play. Great graphics, loads of action, and a vast variety of weapons, armor, and loadouts to appeal to all different kinds of play styles. Certainly a great game to play with your friends!

Serious Sam HD The First Encounter

Website: Croteam

Current Status: Not Completed

Picture this if you will. 4 adventuring buddies, playing some Serious Sam HD TFE. After a fairly extensive session of gameplay, they are making their way through a castle (I believe, it has been some time ago). One of them comes to a switch to open the door. *BAM* A massive red boxing glove flies out, and propels said adventure across the corridor. *Laughter ensues!* This is one of my fondest, and most memorable Serious Sam moments! It…was…hilarious…! Everyone in our group busted out laughing, including the poor soul with us that got blasted into oblivion by said giant boxing glove! SS games tend to contain an incredible amount of action, humor, and over all just terrific times! In truth, I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t the inspiration for some of the other shooter games we have available to date. There are actually quite a few SS games out there (granted the majority of them have some age on them), but it certainly says a lot in terms of the devotion of the devs, companies, and communities behind Serious Sam!
