With the completion of our run through the Director’s Cut of Nikoderiko The Magical World, Qvaid and I were gearing up for new adventures in one of the other games we had ready in our collection of games on Steam.
The initial plan was to head back to TMNT: Splintered Fate, but I could see that while she didn’t necessarily dislike the game, there were mechanics that really frustrated her about it. Namely, the fact that you start over at the lair upon a complete wipe during the run.
While we were looking over games we had available, we came across Dysmantle. I picked up the game awhile back along with all the available DLC at the time during a Steam Seasonal Sale.
Qvaid asked me to load it up, and shortly after the installation we were on our way through our own little Zombie Apocalypse!
All I can say on our brief start yesterday evening, is I’m certainly impressed. We are only about 2.6 hours into our start at the time of this post. We should log a decent bit of time Wednesday and Thursday evening, however.
We are both really enjoying the game a good bit thus far. The game play is different, but great! We are learning the ropes of Dysmantle’s survival mechanics, and methods to work our way through the starting areas.
I’ll be the first to admit that the implementation of co-op was certainly different, but a great experience thus far. I do wish there was an automatic method to control the camera, but at the same time, we enjoy the fact that we do have control over it. Even if that control is ultimately left to both players to control it for, well, both players.
The leveling, skills, resource gathering, and game play seem to me like it would make for an excellent game with replay benefits.
On a side note, thus far the game runs great on Linux (Fedora 42 KDE Plasma Desktop), and with Xbox controllers (PowerA generic Xbox controllers as it were.).
