Hobbit Plays: 12.15.25 – 12.21.25

Hobbit Plays News

Ah, the holidays. The balance of family time, hobbies, budgets, food allergies, games, and social anxiety (did I say that out loud?). Wait. Did I mention games? Yes, and games! Where was I? Oh yes! The Holidays! Great times!

Schedules lined up at least a bit better this weekend, although Kilen seemed to be coming down with something, and his work scheduled was a bit off with the holidays, so he called it quite early Sunday.

Aces, Kilen, and I spent a decent amount of time chatting in Discord while the three of us explored the vast cosmos of No Man’s Sky. I can’t lie, I am absolutely loving every single second of it!

Error and the family are down for some time a bit due to the holidays, and a bit due to just being home sick I suspect. The grand kids are a loud bunch of rug rats, but I do love them dearly! 🙂

Another insane list of Honorable Mentions this week! Maybe, I should have started looking into adding the honorary NH members sessions to the list some time ago. Although, will I be able to keep up!?

The majority of the gang has been MIA for some time, although I have seen them play some games here and there. Mostly solo sessions as it would seem, but at least they are gaming. Still it would be nice if they dropped in for a bit of a chat, but I get it. Sometimes you just need to play a game uninterrupted, and then get back to the chores of life.

This week is supposed to be a short week for me, I’m hoping to have a really nice list of gaming sessions to post about in next week’s Hobbit Plays!

Game long, my friends. Game hard.

Highlights

Days played: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Players: Qvaid, Hobbit

Comments: Qvaid and I continued to grind out more experience, gold, and credit in Spells & Secrets through out this week.

We made some great progress, and managed to defeat the prince at least twice. We now have two wards active (effectively increasing the difficulty of the game).

I have to admit, I’ve been fairly impressed with the performance, look, mechanics, and game play of Spells & Secrets. It’s another game where I’m not entirely sure the videos and images in Steam do it justice.

There are quite a few combinations of spells, especially on the utility side that can really turn the tides of battle to your favor. My favorite spells, if I had to pick, would be levitate and telekinesis. I love dragging creatures & bosses into damaging effects with telekinesis, and using levitate to stop them in their tracks. I also admit, I’m rather fond of magic missile in combination with those two, although it is far weaker than bombard, which is Qvaid’s favorite spell of choice.

The artifacts you can use to enhance spells has been incredibly fun at times as well.

The game truly is a bit of a master piece at least in my opinion. Granted the graphics, images, and videos in Steam make it come off as more of a kids game. I suppose in some cases it might be, but Qvaid and I are definitely having a blast, never-the-less.

On Thursday evening, as Qvaid and I called it for the night, we were in the middle of a run. Although, I can’t seem to recall what floor we were on in the run. I’m fairly certain it was the start of the Estates, but it might have even been the Spires.

We are looking forward to the bit of extra time we’ll get to play over the holidays, with Christmas and New Years right around the corner!

Days played: All week

Players: Aces, Kilen, Hobbit

Comments: The majority of the week days, I spent with No Man’s Sky running in the background. I would setup things to refine. I’ve recently been able to make some of the high end crafting items, so I use the refiners to get materials I need to process ready during the week. On short breaks, I might also check on a settlement progress, or some other quick tid bit to pass the time. Mostly I try to stick to things that don’t require a lot of my attention, and I’ve grown quite skittish about leaving the refiners going without being close by.

On the weekends, I use some of the resources I’ve prepared to make Stasis Devices or Fusion Ignitors. I’ve actually managed to get myself quite comfortable on units for the first time in a decent age.

The weekend was chalked full of exploration, adventure, and FINALLY the Corvette Expedition! It started on the 17th, but alas I was working during the day hours and gaming with Qvaid in the evenings from Monday – Thursday. On Friday, I just didn’t manage to get around to it. (I get side tracked SO EASY in NMS!)

Kilen and I both managed to get the Corvette Expedition completed over the course of the weekend. It was a real treat in my opinion at least. The first Expedition I’ve done that seemed to be so combat oriented. I really enjoyed the experience!

I also completed the weekly Quicksilver mission from the Nexus in the Anomaly, and managed to finish up Discovery Shire 006 SA’s star system. All the fauna was discovered, the base was decommissioned, and I moved on to Discovery Shire 008 SA! (Discovery Shire 007 SA was already completed a bit prior).

That is one of the things in NMS my friends love to give me a hard time about. When I find a star system, that I discover, I try to get all the planets and fauna, and as much of the flora and minerals as I can stand. I don’t know why, I just LOVE to do that in NMS!

I have a method to my madness. I use the round prefab bases as ‘Discovery Staging Areas’. Unfortunately, I recently adopted this method, so I have likely quite a few more star systems that the current count, but I don’t have record of those long past.
