I am certainly a gamer that enjoys variety. This week was full of such. So much in fact that it was a bit of a mess! That’s not really a complaint mind you, just an observation as I go to finish up this week’s Hobbit Plays post.
The Windows 11 installation and install of Minecraft came in handy at the end of the week as you’ll note below for the epic session of Minecraft Bedrock took place!
All that said, I did the best I feel I could manage to get it all together in a bit of an organized mess. In all the gaming adventure I could have left something out. Should that be the case, I apologize. It was still quite a great adventure over all. This Hobbit really does love some games!
The current state of our gaming group is quite literally all over the place, with none of us really being on the same page as to what and when we want to play. This should be evident from the schedule below along with the Honorable Mentions and Highlights.
No Man’s Sky was definitely in the mix although to be fair, I think technically only Falken and Error had a brief session of game play in it together. The rest of us are working through the latest expedition and so multiplayer isn’t really a great option there and can be quite disruptive to completing the expedition in fact. While I always feel like NMS should have a place in the Highlights, I try to reserve those for gaming sessions that includes at least a few of us together, and ultimately that didn’t really happen in NMS this week.

Highlights

Days played: Monday
Players: Qvaid, Hobbit
Comments: Qvaid and I were able to complete our play through of Nikoderiko: The Magical World on Monday evening.
We both figured we were getting pretty close to the end of the run when we finished up our gaming sessions on Thursday night.
Over all it was a good bit of adventure, fun, and quite a few laughs for us. We enjoyed the game and are hopeful we might have reason to revisit it, should the content update on April 15th present us with anything viable to build on.

Days played: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Players: Qvaid, Hobbit
Comments: I have to admit the Star Trek Prodigy Supernova has turned out to be a great bit of adventure. The game explains what you need to do really well (albeit perhaps a bit too well), it has a decent amount of action, story, a touch of humor, and co op play is decent.
Qvaid and I do have a few complaints, but these do not make the game unplayable for ‘us’.
The first might be related to the fact that we are playing on Linux, but I suspect it might just be the way the game operates. At numerous points after loading, the ‘second player’ has to load back in. The game defaults me to the character Qvaid likes to play, so I have to swap, and then she has to press start on the controller to come back in.
The second being, the game has a design where you encounter areas in stages you cannot access until you’ve rescued all of your crew mates. Generally I have nothing wrong with that as it gives you reason to play previous stages and generally makes getting ‘more’ of the game to a higher completion level. The issue we have is you have to run through all the story for that stage again. You can speed through it, but we haven’t found a way to ‘skip’ it.
Otherwise Qvaid and I have really been enjoying what Star Trek Prodigy Supernova has to offer. The co op mechanics are decent, and the puzzles are also a nice addition.
We finished out the night on Thursday with all our crew mates rescued and are back tracking through previously played stages to earn resource and materials to purchase upgrades such as health, stamina, and for our weapons.

Days played: Saturday, Sunday
Players: Error, Kilen, Hobbit
Comments: The majority of our gaming sessions in SoTF felt sporadic at best. Kilen brought up the desire to continue the game we recently started on my system, and Error and I were happy to oblidge.
I say it was sporadic (or felt as such) because the two sessions we had were fairly short lived. We did some upgrades to the boat house we’ve been using as a somewhat mobile base, and rode around on our Knight V devices, hopping off to combat cannibals and gather resources.
There are certainly aspects I think are great about SoTF and there are those I feel lack quite a bit of depth. I’m not overly fond of the ‘armor’ mechanic in Sons for example. You craft bone armor from 4 bones, duct tape, and rope that effectively only renders a single hit from the enemy before apparently the armor disintegrates into oblivion.
I’ll be the first to admit, that while I fair well in most games I try, the combat in Sons has been a bit of a struggle for me. I block, but still take a hit, I hit the enemy, but it doesn’t seem quite as effective.
Maybe I’ll get it with some practice, I mean I’ve made some improvements. That said, much like Outward Definitive Edition, the combat at the time of this post at least certainly has me a bit stumped.
In my opinion the resources that go into crafting armor doesn’t seem to be very efficient, although I won’t refute the effectiveness it ‘can’ have in keeping you standing.
Perhaps more game play will show me a better way to combat all the dangers that lurk in the forest and areas of this crazy island…

Days Played: Sunday
Players: Eldon, Error, Kilen, Hobbit
Comments: I was grateful to get another visit to Dying Light again this weekend. In truth, I was starting to think it might not happen this week.
Eldon was MIA for a good portion of the weekend, and after some computer issues I helped him through on Saturday, we ended up playing 7 Days to Die.
Fortunately sometime later Sunday we were able to get a little bit of game play in before the weekend ended.
The game is still ‘new’ to us, and that always makes for some fun and interesting adventures.
Sadly, it was short lived as the scheduling had dinner time right on the cusp of the evening for the majority of us. When I returned from dinner, everyone had bounced and we never got back to it.
We did manage to find and contact Rais (I think?) and got our first mission from him before getting into some shenanigans and calling it before dark at a Safe House we cleared as darkness was falling.

Days Played: Saturday
Players: Aces, Eldon, Error, DNC, Kilen, Hobbit
Comments: 7 Days to Die holds the record for the most of us in game at any given time over the weekend.
Over all, Aces, Eldon, Error, DNC, Kilen, and myself were in game together, although to be fair, I think Eldon had called it before DNC joined us.
We mostly did the typical Trader Missions with a bit of work on the base here and there. You got to gather those resources if you want to stay safe and sound in the End Times, survivors!
Technically speaking, Sunday Error played a bit more and managed to make motorcycles for several of us. I hopped in thinking we were getting ready for more adventures there, but we hopped off to hit some Dying Light and never made it back around to 7 Days to Die before the weekend came to a close.

Days Played: Friday, Sunday
Players: Error, Qvaid, MammaA, Hobbit
Comments: Error and I had a pretty decent session of Minecraft Bedrock on Friday evening to start the weekend gaming festivities.
He managed to befriend a parrot on our journey and we got a starter base setup on the game I was hosting after a good bit of connectivity issues.
We played until later in the evening on Friday, mostly just gathering resources and trying to stay alive.
MammaA (Error’s wife) joined Error, Qvaid, and me for some Minecraft Bedrock gaming Sunday evening.
We had a bit of a rocky start with connectivity and such for the start. We managed to get all that ironed out, and were gathering and running around to get ready to setup a starter base.
The grandkids were starting to get a bit restless at some point in the later part of the eveing, and MammaA and Error decided it was probably time to call it there.
Over all, we have all the kinks worked out, and it was a pretty good time of fun with the family. I’m looking forward to the next bit of Minecraft game play as scheduling will allow.
